About Us

City Emergency Operation Centre and Regional Disaster Management Centre (RDMC) was set up in year 2006 at the Municipal Head Office of Navi Mumbai Disaster Management to tackle disasters in Navi Mumbai especially after the July 2005 deluge at Mumbai. It was upgraded with modern equipment to handle emergency situations effectivelyin the city of Navi Mumbai and the region.

 

The RDMC works round the clock throughout the year. It serves as a Command & Control agency between the administration and field units. It is a single-point source for all issues related to disaster management. It coordinates with various key stakeholders for quick and effective response during a disaster.

 

The RDMC is equipped with an array of communications systems. These include:

  • Land lines
  • Hotlines to 10 vital agencies, 1 peripheral hospitals & main Fire Station and connected on separate telephone lines with eight administrative wards. Each agency provides regular updates about the situation in the city.
  • Cellular phones
  • A Very High Frequency (VHF) wireless communication system by which the unit is connected to 2 installations for effective communication with key stakeholders and important agencies at all times to cater to any emergency.
  • Television set which are tuned to major news channels to keep abreast of the latest news.
  • Toll free numbers 1800222309and 1800222310to citizens to register their complaints at Emergency Operation Centre of NMMC
  • The NMMC website: www.nnmc.gov.in where complaints can be lodged. Computers, laptops, scanners, fax, etc. have been provided in the control room.

The DMC networks with 10 key agencies on hotlines. Each agency provides regular updates about the situation in the city. The DMC also elicits public participation by organizing frequent training programmes on disaster preparedness for communities, school/college students and corporates.

 

The DM Cell is currently preparing of a multi-hazard disaster plan for the city wherein the resources of various agencies are being identified and mapped.

Objectives of DM Cell:

1.    Ensure quick and effective response to any     disaster in the city of Navi Mumbai.

2.    Improve coordination among all the responder agencies.

3.    Provide information related to disasters to the citizens of Navi Mumbai.

4.    Encourage preparedness at all levels.

5.    Provide assistance to all affected in the event of a disaster.

6.    Alert citizens for likely/ expected and unexpected emergencies.

 

Functions of DM Cell:

1.    Issue alert to all concerned agencies.

2.    Provide early warning to citizens whenever possible.

3.    Deploy first responders through Fire Brigade, Hospitals and Search and Rescue Teams.

4.    Arrange for emergency supplies of water and food.

5.    Arrange for transfer of stranded & marooned persons.

6.    Arrange for emergency transport for the seriously injured.

7.    Coordinate for setting up temporary shelters.

8.    Coordinate with NGOs

 

Tasks of DMC for Flood Preparedness:

1.    Note High Tide levels and dates and alert the respective departments & citizens.

2.    Issue early warning to citizens through SMS.

3.    Disseminate Information through print, electronic media and dynamic website etc.

4.    Deploy Civil Defence teams in all sensitive wards during monsoon.

5.    Prepare and update the Disaster Management Plan.

6.    Prepare and update the inventory of resources.
