City Bus System
NMMC area is served by four bus transport agencies which operate services between Mumbai – NMMC area, with in NMMC area, Thane – NMMC area and surrounding area. These services are
- Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT)
- Brihan Mumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST)
- Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC)
- Kalyan‐ Dombiwali Municipal Transport (KDMT)
NMMT undertaking has 567 buses catering to 1,80,000 passengers daily and operating on 74 routes.
Existing City Bus System
The existing city bus system is operated by Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport. NMMT operate the city buses within the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation area as well as outside the corporation area including Mumbai, Borivali, Bandra, Mantralaya, World Trade Center, Andheri, Mulund, Thane, Dombivali, Kalyan, Badalapur, Khargar Kalamboli, Panvel, New panvel, Khopoli, Ulve Node, Karanjade, Koproli, and Uran.
Details of routes
At present, NMMT operates a total of 567 buses on 74 routes with some special services. The city bus services concludes that the total route length for all the services is 2006 km, the average length of all routes are approximate 26 km with maximum of 60 km and minimum of 5 km. The average headway for all routes is 15 minutes with maximum of 65 minutes and minimum of 7 to 10 minutes.

NMMT - ITMS Department (Intelligent Transport Management System)
Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) has set up modern Command Control Center (CCC) at NMMT Head office located in CBD Belapur through Integrated Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS). It has connected and control over 03 bus depot as well as 15 computerized major control points online transaction daily. ITMS developed 09 modules each as furnished.
NMMT Bus Tracker Mobile Application :-
- Real time data and information is available to citizen for journey planning, ETA of buses, grievance redressal etc. resulting in citizen satisfaction. More than 1,00,000 citizens have downloaded NMMT Mobile Tracker application and apx 35000 use daily.
- Reduced waiting-time at bus stop for commuters as they can plan their journey on the basis of ETA of Buses. Even the Alarm feature is available which provides alert about the arrival of bus at as per set bus stop /destination.
AVLS (Automatic Vehicle Location System):-
- Behavioral changes in driving including control on over speeding , harsh breaking, harsh acceleration etc. has improved safety of the passengers as crew has been sensitised and trained about real time tracking on these issues along with realtime calls/ alerts to the crew from control room.
- Grievance redressal mechanism have been put in place including easy to handle App and toll free number which has improved citizen participation and grievance redressal.
Automatic Fare Collection System:-
- AFCS module has resulted in automatic reconciliation and auditing of receipts. Audit report can be generated which are helpful for understanding financial position on real time basis. Also, it has reduced manpower requirement for cash collection, reconciliation, auditing etc.
- Decision making has become much faster with available data.
Scheduling and planning:-
- With the help of route rationalization, we have managed to deploy our resources effectively.
Business Intelligence (BI) :-
- BI provide us Analytical data of AVLS & AFCS system. Which help to decision making about NMMT operations.
Inventory Management :-
- Inventory management is the supervision of non-capitalized assets (inventory) and stock items. This system maintain stock availability in nmmt store.
Public Information System (PIS) :-
- Facilitates computer by providing updates of Expected Arrival and Departure time of buses at NMMT Bus Terminals and Bus stations.
- Displays Real Time information of routes and estimated time of arrival bus.
- Automatic internal voice and visual announcements of next stop locations.
Financial Management System (FMS) :-
- A financial management system is the software that an organization uses to oversee and govern its income, expenses, and assets with the objectives of maximizing profits and ensuring sustainability
Command & Control Center
- CCC operate and monitoring all the ITS system also help to commuters on NMMT help line.
NAVI – Open Loop Smart Card
- Use it for NMMT bus tickets
- Use it for shopping at a POS terminal
- Use it as a ATM
- Quick transaction in contactless mode
- SMS alert for all transactions.
NMMT provides UPI mode transactions for passengers which makes more options available for digital payments
